The Art of Self-Alignment

Balance fun, food and fitness. Create mental and physical balance in just a few steps...

Creating balance in our lives is the key life and a true art form. There are few ways to keep our bodies balanced and other means to keep our minds present and at satisfied with their surroundings.

Balance for the Body:

1. Practice: Strength and Flexibility

Although yoga is great at building natural strength and is one of the best ways to tone your muscles and develop flexibility. In yoga, by doing the movements slowly and holding poses for a while, you activate slow-twitch muscle fibers, which builds endurance, as well.

2. Practice: Explosiveness at the Gym

If you do full-body compound lifts at the gym, and lift weights explosively, you activate your fast-twitch muscle fibers. This helps you develop power and speed.

Alignment for the Mind:

3. Practice: Letting Go

Let go and let yourself sleep in! Letting yourself catch up on some shut-eye is one of the sweetest gifts you can give your body. Sleep is absolutely essential to feeling good and is just as important as nutrition, exercise, and mindfulness. Cancel your plans one weekend morning and try doing absolutely nothing. Read the paper! Make coffee at home! Leave your phone in your bedroom! Be with your kid! You've got this.

4. Practice: Investing in Your Creativity

Try an art class. Working creatively with your hands turns on a different section of your brain than what you're used to, especially for those of us who are computer-bound. Tapping into your inner artist can be deeply healing a potent reminder to take time to do the things you love... thus making life more full.

5. Practice: Self-Care

Figure out the things in your life that lift you up and give you joy. Whether it be a hike by the ocean or getting a massage, invest in yourself and make time to enjoy those rejuvenating self-care practices! The more love you give yourself, the more love you will be able to give others.
