Emotional Fluency
for Mental Health

In Support of Mental Health Month

Understanding #EmotionalFluency

What It Is

Emotional Fluency is the skill of experiencing authentic emotion without judgment or attachment. It is the ability to sense, translate, and effectively apply the power of emotions in a healthy and productive way.

Why It's Important

Society gives us numerous messages implying it is weak to feel or show emotion. Those who express their feelings are often devalued, ridiculed, and judged. All these factors create a personal and societal resistance to emotion, hindering their ability to function as their best selves. While many of us never learned how to talk about our emotions in a professional setting, it is time we take this step towards breaking the stigmas around mental health in the workplace and the world.

#BreakTheStigma

More than half of people with Mental Illness do not seek help for their disorders. Often, people avoid pursuing treatment due to concerns about being treated differently or fears of losing their jobs and livelihood. Stigma causes people to feel ashamed for something that is out their control and prevents people from seeking the help they need. Join us in breaking the stigmas surrounding mental health.

The Campaign

The goal of this campaign is to empower people to showcase their emotional fluency by sharing how they sustain a positive mental mindset.

We want to hear your story, choose any or all of the following ways to express your #EmotionalFluency:

  1. Submit a blog about your mental health journey

  2. Submit a video sharing how you express your emotional fluency

  3. Submit a video of you reciting your favorite inspirational quote
