The Emancipation Proclamation was signed into effect in 1863, but it wasn’t until June 19, 1866 that enslaved African Americans in Texas would be officially free. Also known as Freedom Day, Emancipation Day, or Juneteenth Independence Day, Juneteenth is the oldest national commemoration of the end of slavery across America. In this health talk session, you will discover the history and impact of this special celebration, which became a federal holiday in 2021. Join hands with others across the country and recognize why this holiday is more important than ever in the context of the Black Lives Matter movement.
